It is specifically listed to fit Husqvarna 455 Rancher, 460 Rancher, 555, 562XP, 365 / 565, 576XP, 385XP, 390XP, 395XP, 3120XP, and 372XP / 572XP, and it is also listed for Stihl MS 362, MS 391, and MS 462C.

Will this chain fit your saw?

Measuring chain pitch, gauge and drive links

The most important thing is to match all four chain specs, not just the brand or bar length:

  • Bar length: 24”
  • Pitch: 3/8”
  • Gauge: .050”
  • Drive links: 84DL

If your current chain or bar calls for those exact dimensions, this chain is the correct size. Even if a saw model is listed as compatible, chain fitment can still vary if the saw has a different bar setup installed, so the safest check is always the full spec match.

This chain is listed for chainsaw sizes 50–100 cc and fits these models from the original fitment information:

Replacing the chain

Fitting the chain onto the bar and sprocket

Before starting, shut the saw off, let it cool, and disconnect the spark plug wire if you are performing a full service. Wear gloves when handling the chain.

  1. Remove the clutch cover and back off the chain tension so the old chain can be lifted off the bar and drive sprocket.
  2. Clean the bar groove, oil holes, and clutch-cover area before installing the new chain. Packed debris can affect oiling and tension.
  3. Install the new 84-drive-link chain around the drive sprocket and along the 24” bar, making sure the cutter edges on the top of the bar face forward.
  4. Refit the clutch cover, then adjust chain tension until the chain sits snugly in the bar groove but can still be pulled around by hand with a gloved hand.
  5. Tighten the bar nuts securely and recheck tension after tightening, since it often changes slightly.
  6. Run the saw briefly, then stop and inspect tension again. A new chain will usually need a quick retension after its first short use.

Keeping it sharp

Sharpening a chainsaw chain cutter

A sharp chain cuts faster, safer, and with less strain on the saw. If you find yourself pushing the saw through the cut, the chain is already getting dull.

A few practical habits help a lot:

  • Keep the chain out of dirt, sand, and rocks. One brief ground strike can dull cutters very quickly.
  • Maintain proper chain tension. A loose chain can derail; an overly tight chain creates excess heat and bar wear.
  • Make sure bar oil is flowing well. Good lubrication helps preserve the cutters, drive links, and bar rails.

FAQ

Will this chain fit every 24-inch Husqvarna bar?

No. A 24-inch bar alone is not enough to confirm fit. Your setup also needs to use 3/8” pitch, .050” gauge, and 84 drive links.

Can I use this on a saw not listed here?

Yes, if your saw and bar combination uses a 24” bar with 3/8” pitch, .050” gauge, and 84DL. The listed saw models and replacement part numbers are the best direct reference points.

Is this chain only for Husqvarna saws?

No. It is listed for Husqvarna models above and also for Stihl MS 362, MS 391, and MS 462C, provided the bar setup matches the stated chain dimensions.
