Atlas 80V 18-Inch Chainsaw — Finding the Right Replacement Chain
Harbor Freight’s Atlas brand has stepped into serious territory with the 80V 18-inch chainsaw, launched in early 2026 as part of a broader push into pro-grade outdoor power equipment. For homeowners and value-conscious professionals, Atlas tools offer significant savings over premium brands — but finding the right replacement chain can be less straightforward when the brand is newer and aftermarket support is still building.
Here is what you need to know about chain specs, compatibility, and the Atlas 80V battery system.
Chain specifications for the Atlas 80V 18-inch chainsaw
The Atlas 80V chainsaw uses a standard chain configuration:
- Bar length: 18 inches
- Chain pitch: 3/8” LP (low profile)
- Chain gauge: 0.050”
- Drive link count: 62 (verify with your specific unit)
- Chain type: Low-kickback, semi-chisel
These are standard consumer chainsaw chain specs — the same pitch, gauge, and drive link count used by many 18-inch saws from EGO, Greenworks, Kobalt, and others. This is good news for parts availability.
Finding a replacement chain
Because Atlas uses standard chain specifications, you are not limited to Atlas-branded chains (which may have limited availability through Harbor Freight). Compatible replacement chains include:
- Oregon S62 — The Oregon S62 is a 3/8” LP, 0.050” gauge chain with 62 drive links. It is one of the most widely available consumer chainsaw chains and should be a direct fit.
- Carlton equivalents — Carlton produces chains in the same spec that fit any saw using 3/8” LP, 0.050”, 62 DL.
- Multi-brand universal chains — Many online retailers sell chains listed by spec rather than by brand. Search for “3/8 LP .050 62 DL” and you will find numerous options.
Before installing any replacement chain, verify the drive link count by counting the links on your current chain. Manufacturing runs can occasionally vary, and an incorrect drive link count means the chain will not tension properly.
The Atlas 80V dual-voltage battery system
The Atlas 80V platform includes an interesting compatibility feature:
- 80V battery packs work with Atlas 40V tools — If you own Atlas 40V equipment, your 80V batteries are backwards compatible
- 40V battery packs do NOT work with 80V tools — The 80V chainsaw requires 80V battery packs. You cannot use a 40V Atlas battery in the 80V chainsaw.
This is a one-way compatibility. The 80V packs are essentially dual-port batteries that can deliver either 80V or 40V depending on the tool they are inserted into. But the 40V packs lack the voltage required to run 80V tools.
If you are building an Atlas tool collection, starting with the 80V platform gives you the most flexibility, since those batteries work across both voltage lines.
Other Atlas 80V outdoor tools
The chainsaw is part of a growing 80V lineup from Atlas that includes:
- 80V dual-port backpack blower — Released in March 2026, this is a high-output blower aimed at professional landscapers
- Additional 80V tools are expected as Harbor Freight continues expanding the Atlas brand
The same 80V batteries power all of these tools, so your battery investment grows with the platform.
Bar replacement
When the bar wears out (check for uneven rail wear, a widened groove, or burring on the rail edges), replacement bars for the Atlas 80V chainsaw should match:
- Length: 18 inches
- Gauge: 0.050”
- Bar mount pattern: Check the stud spacing and tensioner pin location on your saw — Atlas may use a proprietary mount that differs from other brands
If an exact Atlas replacement bar is not available, aftermarket universal bars from Oregon and others can often be adapted if the mount pattern matches. Measure your bar mount carefully before ordering.
Sharpening and maintenance
Standard chainsaw maintenance applies to the Atlas 80V:
- Sharpen with a 5/32” round file (standard for 3/8” LP chain)
- Check chain tension before each use — battery chainsaws are particularly sensitive to loose chain because they lack the flywheel momentum of petrol saws
- Keep the bar oiled — Verify that the automatic oiler is functioning. Low oil leads to rapid bar and chain wear.
What this means for replacement parts
The Atlas 80V 18-inch chainsaw uses industry-standard 3/8” LP, 0.050” gauge chain, making replacement chains easy to source from Oregon, Carlton, and other manufacturers. You are not locked into Atlas-branded parts for this consumable. Browse our catalogue for compatible 18-inch chainsaw chains with 62 drive links that fit the Atlas 80V and similar saws.
